U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) assisted in a federal investigation that resulted in the indictment of Miguel Angel Olivera-Borda, a 38-year-old Peruvian national accused of marriage-related immigration fraud. Federal prosecutors allege that Olivera-Borda knowingly provided false information while seeking lawful permanent resident status, including claiming in 2026 that he continued to live with his U.S. citizen wife even though the couple had allegedly separated in 2020 and had not reestablished a bona fide marital relationship. If convicted, Olivera-Borda could face up to 20 years in prison. Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the case, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina is prosecuting it. The charges are allegations only, and Olivera-Borda is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
