U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) helped investigate an international alien-smuggling and immigration fraud operation that resulted in Cuban national Yuniel Lima-Santos, 31, pleading guilty to multiple federal charges. According to court documents, Lima-Santos and his co-conspirators promoted fraudulent immigration and smuggling services through social media, helping Cuban nationals and others enter the United States by submitting false ESTA applications, fabricating European citizenship claims, and using fake addresses and documents. The organization charged between $1,500 and $40,000 for its services and arranged commercial and private flights to transport individuals into and throughout the United States. Lima-Santos also admitted to helping smuggle Cuban women who later worked in strip clubs to repay their smuggling debts. The operation also involved extensive money laundering, including the use of a shell company to conceal proceeds from the scheme. Between 2021 and 2024, Lima-Santos transferred more than $600,000 overseas to purchase flights used in the smuggling operation. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy and substantive alien-smuggling charges, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and money-laundering offenses, and faces up to 20 years in federal prison. Twelve people were charged in connection with the broader conspiracy, several of whom have already pleaded guilty, while others are awaiting sentencing or trial.
