The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for South Sudan will end effective January 5, 2026. Following a required review process and consultations with other federal agencies, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem determined that South Sudan no longer meets the statutory conditions for TPS designation. As a result, South Sudanese nationals in the U.S. are encouraged to prepare for departure and may use the CBP Home Mobile App to report their exit, which offers a free plane ticket, a $1,000 exit bonus, and possible future eligibility for legal immigration opportunities.
