Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach announced election fraud charges against Jose Ceballos, a Mexican national and the recently reelected mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, for allegedly voting illegally multiple times and committing election perjury. The charges, filed in Comanche County, carry potential prison time exceeding five years. Officials highlighted the case as evidence of the need for stronger voter verification systems, praising the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program for helping prevent such crimes. USCIS emphasized its ongoing efforts to strengthen SAVE so that states can verify citizenship for voter registration and protect election integrity, noting that 26 states currently use or are adopting the program.
