USCIS Unveils First Changes to Naturalization Test in Multi-Step Overhaul of American Citizenship Standards

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the first set of changes to the naturalization civics test as part of a broader overhaul aimed at strengthening the integ its of the American citizenship process. The updated 2025 test is designed to better assess applicants' understanding of U.S. history and government, aligning with statutory requirements. USCIS is also implementing stricter vetting procedures, revising disability exception reviews, and enhancing evaluations of applicants' moral character by emphasizing positive societal contributions. Additional measures include resuming neighborhood investigations and clarifying that unlawful voting or false claims to citizenship disqualify applicants. These reforms reflect USCIS' commitment to ensuring that new citizens fully embrace American values and responsibilities.
